HOW TO BET (FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNER)

You can wager at a Self Service terminal or with a Mutuel Teller. In either case the process is the same. You need to know the following information and be ready to present it in the order listed.

1. The name of the track you want to wager on

2. The number of the race you want to wager on

3. The dollar amount of your wager

4. The type of wager you would like

5. The number (not that name) of the horse(s) you would like to wager on

BASIC BET TYPES

WIN: You collect if your horse finishes first

PLACE: You collect if your horse finishes in either first or second position

SHOW: You collect if your horse finishes in either first, second or third position

EXOTIC BET TYPES

The following wagers are known as exotic wagers and many times give you the opportunity to win big on a relatively small investment

EXACTA: You collect by picking two horses to finish first and second in the exact order

TRIFECTA: You collect by picking three horses to finish first, second and third in the exact order

SUPERFECTA: You collect by picking four horses to finish first, second, third and fourth in the exact order

DAILY DOUBLE: Picking the winners of two races that are designated Daily Double races. Wagers must be placed before the running of the first of the two races

PICK THREE: Picking the winners of three races that are designated Pick Three races. Wagers must be placed before the running of the first of the three races

PICK FOUR: Picking the winners of four races that are designated Pick Four races. Wagers must be placed before the running of the first of the four races
